Other laws have also been given to us. Again these laws are not punitive; they are guidelines on how to live a life more attuned to peace. These laws are the guidelines’ of how to respect others and God. These laws are called the Ten Commandments in the west and Yama Niyama in the east.
When these laws are respected and followed, they bring about more peace; more peace within and without. When they are not followed…you can see what is going on right now in the world. In the material world we live in there will never be complete peace. There will always be some conflict. Because in the world of duality in which we live in, there can be no happiness without sadness, no wealth without poverty, no health with sickness.
Happiness is really something that is just on the opposite end of the same thing, one can not exist without the other. This polaric relationship between opposites is what the Chinese call “mutually arising”. In some cultures, what makes someone happy, will make others sad in a different culture. While in the East, people rejoice knowing that the soul has been liberated. It’s really just a matter of what our mind dictates or considers acceptable and not acceptable.
