The truth Ashtavakra speaks of is Absolute Truth, which encompasses all truths.
As in all virtues, there are different stages of each of them. Not everyone can become absolutely honest in everything they say and do, instantly.
And so it goes with truth. We must sincerely seek the truth out, the truth about ourselves, who we really are and all that which we come in contact with. The hardest part and at the same time the easiest part is unveiling the truth of who we are.
Because we live in a world of duality and we identify ourselves with the body we travel in, it will be hard to look beyond the body and our identification with it. We are so entwined with the identification that we are either a male or female, black or white, Spanish or Irish, in a relationship or single, on and on the entanglement goes.
Each one of these identities covers our vision more and more from the absolute Truth of who we really are.
While at the same time we are not randomly born into these “identifications.” Everything has been planned long before we took birth…this time around to help us along our journey back home, Back To The Truth.
We are all Sons and Daughters of God, having this very experience so that The Unlimited, God can experience the limited through us. Yes, God lives through us. We are part of God and God is part of us. God wants to experience this Michael personality, exactly through those identifications I was born into.
But the trick is not to become forgetful of who we really are and why we have come here. God wants each and everyone one of us to live to our potential according to the “gifts” He has given us. Another trick is remembering that all that we have…is a gift. Yes, even the stuff we don’t like.
So where does one start in finding the truth, by developing each of these virtues, by doing all that we can, living our life the best we can, always being grateful for everything that comes into our lives, because there are no mistakes, nothing is random, although it certainly feels like it at times, it’s not.
Just look up at the stars at night. We are only able to see a small fraction of the cosmos, but remember, its all in order. It’s not spinning out of control. It’s not random. It has order and purpose, and so do you.
The Truth is Absolute, there is no doubt or question when you experience it. Some of us experience it suddenly. Some over time and some of us are not even aware that we are experiencing it. But it’s there. Just as the order of the cosmos is there, although we don’t see it or understand it.
I leave you with the words of a saint who experienced The Truth:
“Be afraid of nothing
Hating no one, giving love to all
Feeling the love of God
Seeing His presence in everyone,
And having but one desire
For His constant presence
In the temple of your consciousness;
That is the way to live in this world.”
