Light represents God in all the scriptures, east and west.
In Genesis, the first words spoken by God are, “Let there be light”, this was several days before he created the sun, moon and stars. So, what was the light He created?
Really, God didn’t just create creation he became creation at the same time. He imbued Himself into all of creation, He is the Light of the world and His light is in everything.
In Tibetan Buddhism, meditation students visualize a deity in front of them who dissolves into light and this light dissolves into the meditator. In the moment of merging – this total surrendering – one’s own sense of self is taken over by the divine Self. This is the moment of enlightenment.
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of Life.”
Be totally devoted in the teachings of the God of your understanding and you will experience the Light of Life. And what is the Light of Life? One can say it is “being in this world, but not of it.”
