Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ~Matthew 5:10
In the next three Beatitudes, we hear Jesus of Nazareth preparing His disciples.
In the material world, spiritual teachers and aspirants are often mocked because of what they say and do.
Those whose goal in life is about attaining happiness though satisfying their outward needs (e.g., thinking that their happiness depends on having the best job, looking and feeling good, having the fastest or most expensive car, giving their kids everything they ask for, etc.) will not understand the spiritual lifestyle of being satisfied with what they are “given” through their hard efforts.
The spiritual aspirants are satisfied because they know that they have “worked as if everything depended on them, and prayed as if everything depends on God.”
Whereas those who think they can attain happiness through satisfying their wants and needs on the earthy plane, are only satisfied temporarily.
Yes, we can take the best care of our bodies (and we should to a point), but eventually the body breaks down. Yes, a great job is important, but we are much more than our jobs, and so on.
Remember what Jesus and other Avatars, Saints and Sages taught: that the Kingdom of Heaven is Within. All the joy, peace, compassion, love, intelligence, creativity and wisdom we receive from going within is eternal.
Anything and everything we get from the “external” world is temporary. I’m sure everyone has experienced that.
Yes, those who are not on a similar spiritual path will make fun of you and worse as the next Beatitudes mention.
Not every human being will walk down the path you are walking…it’s available to them, but a spiritual life is something that one wants and works toward every day, until it becomes every moment of each day.
Namaste,
Michael
