Pain is inevitable; Suffering is an option ~Buddhist Proverb
The pain we might feel could be physical, it could be emotional, or it could be both. What we do with and/or about the pain, combined with our outlook and the actions we take to help alleviate that pain, will help us better handle the current pain (or make it worse). Making it worse is also known as suffering.
Here is an example of pain: how one might add suffering to the equation or one might add more peace of mind.
A few years ago, I made my first trip to John of God. A person there was in great physical pain and had been for some time. Before going to John of God, they continued to try and find some type of remedy through allopathic means. They went to doctor after doctor, with each doctor telling that person everything from “There is nothing we can do” to “It’s all in your head.” You can imagine the helplessness this person felt. This pain was coupled with the “Why me?” syndrome as well as “No one believes me and I am needlessly in pain. Why can’t the doctor do something?”
At John of God, they had a spiritual surgery done. This person was very skeptical concerning the spiritual surgery and if anything was accomplished, although they did feel some physical sensations while the spiritual surgery was being performed. After 24 hours, that person came to me and told me that the area in which the spiritual surgery was done was all black and blue as would have happened if there had been a surgery done at a regular hospital back home. Sometime later, this person told me, although there was a physical healing that helped relieve some of the pain they were in, a bigger piece was that they were able to come to a peaceful place of “this might be the best it’s going to get.” This new perspective had given that person the biggest healing of all. They did not have to suffer any longer. They realized that they had to do the best they can, and leave the rest up to Higher Power/God. Let Go, Let God.
Namaste,
Michael
