In my July Ah-Man Newsletter, I spoke about the difference
between Belief and Faith. I’ll recap that discussion here, so that we have a
base to go from:
Belief is brought
about from logic, effort, argument and conflict. Belief is something that is
more tangible. It really comes from intellect.
Faith, on the
other hand, can be considered on the other end of the spectrum. Faith is based
on intuitiveness. Faith is based on something that you can rarely explain. It
is an inescapable inevitability of acceptance that was not there before and
cannot be explained.
This week’s blog is about Letting Go. And yes, this is a
spiritual practice.
If we are not able to let go of our feelings, thoughts,
resentments for a period of time, we will not be able to go within to the place
that will bring about some amount of peace…for a while; that place that helps
us make sound decisions and walk through our lives with a knowingness that
allows us to be who we are meant to be.
Letting Go can be done in many ways…in meditation, prayer,
contemplation of sacred readings, or simply making a decision to “surrender.”
The surrender I speak of is not one of defeat. It really is
the opposite. It is when you “spiritually” surrender that you are empowered.
Surrendering spiritually is simply allowing the ego, pride
and conditioning that runs our lives at times to step aside.
Of course, that is not as easy as it sounds and it takes
practice. As with many things, it’s usually a good thing to start with what’s
called “baby steps.”
So when a situation in life comes up, and you have tried all
that you could or you’re really frustrated by it, try to go in and ask Spirit
to help you. As said in 12 Step programs: Let Go…Let God.
It’s really about getting out of the way, letting go of our
preconceived ideas of how it should be, and letting go of the pride and the ego’s
the need to be right. All that has a place, no doubt, but most of the time, it’s
what’s in the way of Spiritual Independence: Letting Go.
I look forward to your comments and experiences surrounding
Letting Go.
Namaste,
Michael
