For
each of us prayer may mean something different, and we each have our own special
way of communing. How wonderful!
As I
mentioned in the May Ah-Man Newsletter,
prayers for me today are not too long. At night, I pray with Liz when I am not
traveling on the road. I thank God for all that we have, to continue to help
keep our hearts open, and we pray for our family, friends and others. In the
morning I thank God for all I have and to guide me through the day. Then during
the day whenever I find myself drifting, or when I come across a difficult person
or situation, I turn to prayer. They are usually short ones; just to bring my
attention back to my heart and keep it open.
Two of
my favorite short prayers are The Serenity Prayer and The Jesus Prayer.
The Serenity Prayer is:
God grant the
serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change
the things I can,
And the wisdom to
know the difference.
This
prayer really helped me in the beginning to accept situations, do all I can do,
understand this, and let go of the results.
The Jesus Prayer is:
Lord Jesus Christ
have mercy on us.
Some
of us with Catholic backgrounds feel as if we are begging when we ask for
mercy. That is not it at all. We are simply asking The Lord to shed His Grace,
His Love, His Compassion, etc.
This
prayer is so special…it really opens my heart to others and to situations. I
often use this when I feel I am going into a meeting or situation with someone
I do not like being with.
In
this prayer, you also can substitute any name of God. There is only ONE, but
that ONE goes by many names, Allah, Buddha, Krishna, Yahweh, etc.
Please
share your prayers with me.
Namaste,
Michael
