There
are some who believe that Spiritual Laws are punitive. These Spiritual Laws are
guidelines that come from such Truths as Yama Niyama, The Ten Commandments, The
Four Noble Truths/Five Mindful Trainings/or The Twelve Steps are some of these
Truths.
These
guidelines are not punitive; they are simply that…guidelines. When these guidelines are followed in the societies in
which they were born, there is harmony and peace prevails over darkness. And when
they are not? Well, we are experiencing what happens in the days in which we
are currently living.
The
Fifth Commandment of the Bible, followed by Jews, Christians and Muslins, is:
Honor
Your Mother and Father
I
picked this Commandment/Guideline purposely.
First,
how can a child honor a mother or father if they aren’t honoring themselves? We
are the teachers.
But
this guideline goes so much further than what is in black and white. It’s about
honoring all that gives us life. Our mother is our creator and maintainer in
the family. Our father is the provider in the family. When we respectfully appreciate
the females and respect the males in our lives, the foundations of those
relationships are solid.
Mother
Earth creates and maintains; our Heavenly Father provides the sun and rain and
so much more. Plundering Mother Earth’s resources for greed will only bring
about more unbalance. If we listen…truly listen…our mother has always given us
what we needed. There is enough, if we balance all that our Mother has to
offer.
The
Divine Mother is always available to her children.
This
guideline is about respect. Respect our traditions; don’t belittle them or make
fun of them because you don’t understand or value them. When you see others
dressed differently, they are honoring their tradition. Yes, they are
different. Variety is the spice of life. We are all individuals. Each one of us
has our own unique way of expressing ourselves, just as different cultures have
theirs.
Honor
and respect your roots, your culture, your community and all the spiritual
aspects of it that you have yet to grasp. Yes, change is always happening, but
the old ways have value in them as well. Find them and honor them.
If
this one guideline is followed, just imagine the peace and harmony that will
come from it.
