This week for those who celebrate Chanukah, they will finish the lighting of the Chanukah candles.
Chanukah is the remembrance that once again, those who are dedicated to God, the Light….with a faith they will overcome darkness.
Jerusalem was under the control of the Seleucid Empire, which was the major center for Hellenistic culture. They forbid the practice of Judaism. Some Jews turned from their religion and others fought against them and the Seleucid Empire.
When the battle was over, and what seemed impossible was accomplished the Maccabee’s (the tribe that defeated the Seleucid Empire) began the cleansing and rededication of the temple of Jerusalem but found only enough oil that was not contaminated to last but for one night.
God continued to show the Maccabee’s His greatness by taking that oil and making it last eight nights. Showing the Maccabee’s and everyone else that God overcomes Darkness.
The Light Over Comes The Darkness
The Christ, Jesus of Nazareth also has said:
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Telling all who would listen, He is The Light (the perfect reflection of God…His Son) and all those who follow Him will…do not fear, but to take refuge in Him.
