The mistake a lot of people make is that they do feel good for a while and think…why do I need to do anymore? “I feel fine. I’ll just do my exercise/yoga (or whatever self-service they are doing) every day and that will keep me spiritually fit.”
Oh boy, are they in for some rough patches. Remember, all those things I spoke of? There are all things that give temporary repose from the emotions and restless mind. After a while they will not work by themselves. They are not a permanent solution and often can become an issue if used as the only tactic of remembering God.
Why one might ask? Because these are all things that are feeding the body, emotions and mind. They are not feeding the soul.
You might think you are feeling spiritual by these actions. Of course on some level all things are spiritual. But these solutions are not “spirit-centered”. They all are of this world.
A Mystic once told me “All that you see is not real/temporary. All that you don’t see is real/eternal”.
Most “physical/material” things can be used to help us remember God. They are just a one of the tools to help us remember the goal of human life: Remembering God.
